Ben Franklin Board Approves Funding For Five Area Entrepreneurs

STATE COLLEGE, PA - Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Central and Northern Pennsylvania approved more than $700,000 in funding for five tech-based companies located in the region served by the Center:

Indigo Biosciences, Inc. - Centre County – Received $100,000 to continue the commercialization of single-use frozen whole cell assays used by toxicologists, researchers, and drug developers.  This innovation provides the user with an easy-to-use product that saves time and money while minimizing the risk of toxicity or side-effects.  For more information, see www.indigobiosciences.com  

SoftGenetics, LLC – Centre County – Received $110,000 to further develop and market software analysis tools used by genetic researchers to detect and analyze mutations in sample or patient DNA sequence traces.  The company’s programs are renowned for speed, accuracy, and their “biologist-friendly” interface.  For more information, see www.softgenetics.com  

The Ultran Group - Centre County - Received $130,500 to further design, produce, and market proprietary, non-contact ultrasonic technology products and systems for industrial applications. Applied Computational Technologies - Somerset County - Received $75,000 to further develop advanced radiation oncology treatment planning software. ProACTive™ is a dose calculation engine that enables highly accurate, extremely fast radiation therapy.  For more information, see www.appcomptech.com

Cherryhill Manufacturing Corp. – Indiana County – Received $200,000 to further develop their line of hardwood floor sanders.  The U-Sand product line combines the quick results associated with belt sanders with the ease of use of orbital sanders leaving a smooth, gouge-free finish.  For more information, see www.u-sand.com
